The traditional anti-Israeli position of both these sides created this covenant against the
G–d and people of Israel. They joined forces against Israel and Jerusalem as the godly eternal
capital of Israel. Yesterday's picture of the terrorist Yasser Arafat kissing the hand of the Pope af-
ter the signing of the covenant, showed an unholy and hypocritical covenant between a mass-
murderer and a Pope who the Vatican says is holy. How could the Pope allow this hand which is
full of Jewish blood to hold his hand and kiss it. More than being a covenant between two lovers,
this was a covenant of hate against Israel.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry reacted immediately and stated that Jerusalem was, is and
will forever be the capital of Israel and no covenant or statement will ever change this fact. This
statement is a result and continuation of the Word of G–d from thousands of years ago when the
G–d of Israel made Jerusalem the eternal capital of Israel.

For thousands of years, Jerusalem, the beloved city of G–d and Israel, the eternal capital of
the G–d and people of Israel, was the heart, soul and focus of G–d and His people, Israel. G–d
dwelt in the midst of His people on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. Great songs and exciting
prophecies were dedicated by G–d, Israel and the prophets to the city which gave strength, joy and
comfort to this nation under good or bad circumstances. After the Romans destroyed the temple in
70 CE, as well as after the first destruction by the Babylonians in 586 BCE, the people of Israel
swore before being taken into exile:

"If I forget you, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning. If I do not remember
you, let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth; if I do not set Jerusalem above my
highest joy." (Psalm137:5,6)

Jerusalem was in their hearts and hopes in the darkness of the terrible exile. The hope to
come back to Jerusalem and the Promised Land, to rebuild the temple in Jerusalem and again to
worship their beloved G–d gave them great strength to overcome and survive all the terrible per-
secutions and this is the reason that G–d brought His people back to Jerusalem and to the Promised
Land because He so wanted to dwell among them again in the land and city which He promised
them in an eternal covenant. He promised Israel that no covenant against the G–d and people of Is-
rael and the land and Jerusalem will last. Through His prophet, Isaiah, He called such a similar
anti-godly covenant a covenant with death. In Isaiah 28:15 He said --

"Because you have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with Sheol are we at
agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come to us; for
we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hidden ourselves;"
(Isaiah28:15)

He stated very clearly that such a covenant would not work but would turn against those
who signed it.

"And your covenant with death shall be annulled, and your agreement with Sheol shall
not stand; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, then you shall be trampled
down by it." (Isaiah28:18)
